Warwan Trek is one of the eight ancient Transhimalayan traverses that transcend from Ladakh (Suru Valley) to Kashmir Himalayas. Known as the salt route, for centuries Trans Himalayan traders from Kashmir and Ladakh have passed through here. This version of the Warwan trek is a loop that involves crossing two highly adventures passes called “Bobang Gali” and “Lomvilad Gali” which run parallel to each other from Suru valley into Warwan valley.

Day-wise Program

Day1: Arrive in Leh & Leave for Kargil

- Pick up from Airport and drive to Kargil (5 hours)
- Lunch Enroute
- Evening for leisure

Day2: Visit to Hundurman border village and Kargil Vijay Diwas

- After an early breakfast, we will drive to Hundurman which is border settlement on the LoC between India and Pakistan and check out the Hundurman Museum
- Post Hundurman, we will drive to Drass to attend the annual Kargil Vijay Diwas at the Kargil War Memorial
- Return to guest house by evening

Day3: Drive from Kargil to Panikhar basecamp. Trek  fom Panikhar to Sumdo/Deonora

- This is the first day of your trek. 
- Drive from Kargil to basecamp in Panikhar
- Start  trek at 7 am from Panikher, after a healthy early breakfast.
- You will cover a total of 15.6 km with an altitude gain of 1,550 ft. The trail follows Panikher nala upstream and will take you around 6 hours as it gains altitude gradually.
- Our first drinking water source comes 2 and half hours into the trail.
- You will climb gradually to a meadow that will then lead to a wide river basin, that is a confluence of two rivers, called Sumdo.
- Denora is a bit ahead of Sumdo.
- Overnight will be spent in tents at Denora.

Day4: Donardo to Sirmal camping ground at Bobang glacier base (4127m) 5 hours (12 kms)

- Today the trail will be a mix of flat grounds and moraines
- There will be stream crossing and snow bridge crossing
- We will begin by 8 am after breakfast
- Reach Shirmal camping ground by afternoon
- This is one of most beautiful camping grounds on the entire trek as we will be camping by the river stream with Bobang peak in front for a view
- Overnight in tents

Day5: Bobang base to Kanital Nard (3908m) via Bobang La (4756m) 10 hours (15 kms – includes 700M glacier traverse)

- Today is one of the two hardest days of the trek as we will be traversing Bobang pass
- We will be traversing a 700m long glacier and there is very less or no trail so we will be carefully treading the sharp ascent with the help of the local trail guide.
- Since this pass is not pony friendly we will shed some of our load here and carry enough gear for one night of camping once we cross the pass and reach Kanital Nard
- Our ponies will take the Lomvilad pass to meet us at Kanital camping ground on day 5
- The descend from Bobang top is short but steep with loose rocks and boulders
- After walking over a moraine crest we will hit the green patch into Warwan valley. 
- Soon you will realize the sudden change in the landscape from stark mountains to green valleys, marking your entry into Kashmir Himalayas
- We will be setting up camp near a Bakarwal Dera tonight.

Day6: Kanital Nard to Lomvilad Gali base in Kanital camping ground (3487m) 12 kms (4 hours)

- Today again the trail is fairly flat and easy along the green valleys of Kanital
- We will start early at 8 after breakfast and bidding goodbye to our hosts
- After walking for about an hour a 300m descend will bring us to the small lake of Kanital at the junction of Lomvilad and Bobang pass
- We will take left and keep walking towards the Kanital camping ground
- The flat walk and the mesimerising beauty of Kanital will keep your spirits high
- We will reach the camping grounds near the base of Lanval gali where our ponies will be waiting for us
- We will set up camp here and spend the night in tents
- Enjoy and take in the beauty of this unexplored valley in the eveing
- Get an early sleep as we will doing our second hardest trek through the Lomvilad pass

Day7: Lomvilad Gali base to Kalapari via Lomvilad gali (4402m) 10 hours (21 kms)

- Today is the longest and the hardest day on the trek but the most rewarding of all
- We will start very early at 6 am after a healthy breakfast
- Two we will be crossing two massive glaciers
- Once at Lomvilad top the snow field and the glacial lake is sight to remember
- This traverse will bring us back into Suru valley in the Ladakh Himalayas
- We will reach our camp in Kalapari by evening
- Overnight in tents

Day8: Kapalari to Panikhar (drive to Kargil directly) 5 hours (16 kms)

- Today is the last day of our trek and we will descending down towards Panikhar
- We will start early at early by 7am after a good breakfast
- After walking for an hour we will reach Deonaro basin which is the junction of Lomvilad and Babang pass on this side of the valley
- Here we will have to cross a few streams to reach the left side of the river bank
- From here we will follow the trail to reach our pick up point in Panikhar
- Congratulations!
- Reach Kargil by evening and check into guest house

Day9: Kargil to Leh

- Early morning after breakfast leave for Leh
- Check into guest house by evening
- Evening for leisure

- Transport: Transfers from trek points and campsites to hotel in Kargil, Leh-Kargil-Leh

- Valid ID proof (Passport/Voter ID/Drivers Licence) 
- No suitcases. Opt for 70 to 90 litre backpacks
- Water-proof trekking shoes
- One down jacket or warmer for chilly nights
- Rain poncho or jacket/windcheater (a must!)
- Thermal inner (not advisable to wear it while trekking)
- Trekking pants (one spare)
- Sun block
- Hat
- Sun goggles

- Spare under garments and socks (three pairs max)
- Flashlight with extra batteries (preferably wearable)
- Water bottle, preferably wide mouthed, with at least one litre capacity

Booking & Cancelation

Booking a trip with us – How it works?

For scheduled trips, you can directly send a booking enquiry by clicking on Book Now next to each event. Send in your basic details asked for in the booking form. We will get back to you with the detailed itinerary, trip essentials and payment details.

Booking a trip with us is a two step process.

Step 1:
Pay 10% in advance and secure your seat. You are required to send us a confirmation email with the copy of the bank payment slip to journeys@rootsladakh.in

Step 2:
In order for us to secure your booking, pay the remaining 90% prior to the date of departure. Upon payment, you are required to send us the following details by email to journeys@rootsladakh.in:

- Scanned copy of the Medical fitness certificate attested by a certified medical practitioner
- Scanned copy of Payment slip from the bank for payment of 90% of the booking amount.
- Please specify if you need a mule/porter so that we can arrange for one in advance. You can make the payment once you are here
- Specify if you want a single room for yourself. Cost will be communicated to you upon request

Upon receiving these details, we will confirm your booking and the receipt of our payment by email. You can correspond with us over the same email id for any further queries. We are happy to help!

NOTE:
- Booking is secured temporarily upon payment of 10% of the amount
- Bookings will be confirmed after the 90% payment is received prior to date of departure.
- For bookings made within less than 15 days of the date of departure, the full amount must be paid in advance.

Cancellation – How it works?

For scheduled trips, we reserve the right to cancel any trip because of inadequate enrolment that makes the trip economically infeasible to operate or because of our concerns with respect to the safety, health, or welfare of the participants.
If the trip is cancelled due to inadequate enrolment, you will be intimated at least a week in advance. We will cancel the trip if the group size is less than six, one week before the start of the journey.

In case of voluntary cancellation, send us a notice by email to journeys@rootsladakh.in with the subject line “Requesting cancellation --”

- 30% of the total amount will be retained as cancellation fee if the trip is canceled 30-21 days prior to date of   journey.
- 50% of the total amount will be retained as cancellation fee if the trip is canceled 21-15 days prior to date of journey. 
- 70% of the total amount will be retained as cancellation fee if the trip is canceled 15-07 days prior to date of   journey.
- No refund will be granted on cancellation done within one week of the date of journey.
- No refund will be granted for portion/portions of the journey not performed by the traveler.
- No refund will be granted in case of non-performance of journey due to external and natural events.
- The refund process will take atleast 10 to 15 days working days.
- In the event of any dispute, the matter shall be resolved under the jurisdiction of the District Court, Kargil.

Terms specific to scheduled trips:

- If the remainder 90% is not received 15 days prior to the date of departure, the booking will be considered as cancelled and will be made open for other interested participants. The 10% advance will be retained as cancellation fee
- Full refund will be made for trips cancelled by us due to inadequate enrollment

Services included in the cost is subject to the individual trip. You can refer to the trip itinerary details to see what services are included in the cost. Following are the services that are usually excluded from the cost, unless specified in the particular itinerary:

- International & Domestic flight fares
- Travel Insurance
- Accommodation in Srinagar/Leh
- Taxi from Leh/Srinagar to Kargil
- Monument/monastery and Museum visit fees.
- Any expenses of personal nature such as mineral water, laundry.
