Join us on this exciting week-long journey, as we travel to Henasku, a 500 year old village in Ladakh and participate in a heritage documentation & cultural recording project! We’re looking for a group of 8-12 explorers, and if you happen to be an artist, architect, filmmaker,photographer, researcher or simply a mountain lover, then this is for you.

Day-wise Program

Day1: Delhi - Leh. Relax, acclamatisation & walking around at leisure

- The first day will be free to relax, acclimatize, walk around & finish any last minute shopping if required.

Day2: Drive from Leh to Hinaskot village & orientation. Sight-seeing along the way. Ice breaking & interaction in the evening.

- We will leave for Hinaskot after breakfast, and do some local sight-seeing on the way. (Specific places?)
- The journey will include a drive of 2 hrs and a short trek of about 45 mins. (Exact drive time, trek time/ kms)
- Once we will settle into our homestays, we will start with some project briefing and ice breaking sessions. 

Day3: Village walk + cultural documentation. Community interaction in the evening.

- We will break into smaller groups to conduct our interviews and recording sessions.
- Evening will be for fun and community interaction.  

Day4: Architectural documentation. Community interaction in the evening.

- We will continue with another full day of project work.
- Both days will involve a fair bit of walking and hiking.

Day5: Wood carving, bow & arrow making workshop, knitting workshop. Farewell.

- This will be the last day at Hinaskot & we will spend the day with local artisans.
- We will learn wood carving and create something on our own to take back home.
- We will end our Hinaskot stay with a farewell party in the evening! 

Day6: Back to Leh - review & feedback session.

- We will get back to Leh and do a feedback & review session. Evening will be at leisure. 

Day7: Trip to Pangong Tso

- We will leave early in the morning for a day trip to Pangong Tso.
- This will be a long day as the journey is about 5-6 hours one way but we will travel comfortably and take adequate rest stops in between.

Day8: Local sightseeing - Hemis, Thiksey, Stok Palace

- This will be our last day in Leh, and hence has been kept completely free.
- We will spend the day shopping and in the local markets, and finishing any last minute sight-seeing.

Day9: Leh - Delhi

- We will all bid farewell and head to our respectivedestinations, promising to do another trip again.

Cost Includes

- All travel arrangements ex Leh
- Stay in homestays for 4 nights and hotel in Leh for 4 nights
- All meals on all days, except lunch on 8 & 9 Sep

Cost Excludes

- All meals not listed in inclusions i.e. lunch on 8 & 9 Sep as well as any other small meals (snacks etc, as per personal requirement)
- Any extra expenses of personal nature
- Any extra expenses arising out of change in plan due to bad weather, or unforeseen circumstances
- Any medical expenses
- Any other expenses not listed in Inclusions

Trip specific information

- Phone signal is limited. Postpaid connections work in Leh, but signal is sketchy.
- There will be limited access to kirana/medical stores, especially during our village stay so please stock up on your supplies in Leh itself.
- Please do not litter, and refrain from carrying too many plastic bottles.
- Please do not treat your homestay accommodation as a hotel or guesthouse, you will be a guest in someone’s home so please respect their privacy and personal space.
- Please respect the local culture of the place and the villagers.
- You will have comfortable mattresses and warm bedding to sleep on.
- You will be using the traditional dry-pit toilets of Ladakh during the villages stays – it may seem uncomfortable at first,  but it will be a once in a lifetime experience you will remember forever!
- You will experience first-hand the warm and welcoming culture and hospitality of the locals – make the most of this experience, take as much from it as possible and remember to leave a bit of you  behind

Trip Essentials

What to carry? If you want to enjoy the trek, Travel Light!

- Valid ID proof (Passport/Voter ID/Drivers Licence) 
- No suitcases. Opt for 70 to 90 litre backpacks
- Water-proof trekking shoes
- One down jacket or warmer for chilly nights
- Rain poncho or jacket/windcheater (a must!)
- Thermal inner (not advisable to wear it while trekking)
- Trekking pants (one spare)
- Sun block
- Hat
- Sun goggles
- Trekking pole
- Spare under garments and socks (three pairs max)
- Flashlight with extra batteries (preferably wearable)
- Water bottle, preferably wide mouthed, with at least one litre capacity
- Personal toiletries
- Power bank (if you want to use phone camera)
- That book you’ve been meaning to read

Booking & Cancelation

Booking a trip with us – How it works?

For scheduled trips, you can directly send a booking enquiry by clicking on Book Now next to each event. Send in your basic details asked for in the booking form. We will get back to you with the detailed itinerary, trip essentials and payment details.

Booking a trip with us is a two step process.

Step 1:
Pay 10% in advance and secure your seat. You are required to send us a confirmation email with the copy of the bank payment slip to journeys@rootsladakh.in

Step 2:
In order for us to secure your booking, pay the remaining 90% prior to the date of departure. Upon payment, you are required to send us the following details by email to journeys@rootsladakh.in:

- Scanned copy of the Medical fitness certificate attested by a certified medical practitioner
- Scanned copy of Payment slip from the bank for payment of 90% of the booking amount.
- Please specify if you need a mule/porter so that we can arrange for one in advance. You can make the payment once you are here
- Specify if you want a single room for yourself. Cost will be communicated to you upon request

Upon receiving these details, we will confirm your booking and the receipt of our payment by email. You can correspond with us over the same email id for any further queries. We are happy to help!

NOTE:
- Booking is secured temporarily upon payment of 10% of the amount
- Bookings will be confirmed after the 90% payment is received prior to date of departure.
- For bookings made within less than 15 days of the date of departure, the full amount must be paid in advance.

Cancellation – How it works?

For scheduled trips, we reserve the right to cancel any trip because of inadequate enrolment that makes the trip economically infeasible to operate or because of our concerns with respect to the safety, health, or welfare of the participants.
If the trip is cancelled due to inadequate enrolment, you will be intimated at least a week in advance. We will cancel the trip if the group size is less than six, one week before the start of the journey.

In case of voluntary cancellation, send us a notice by email to journeys@rootsladakh.in with the subject line “Requesting cancellation --”

- 75% refund if cancelled >40 days prior to departure date
- 50% refund if cancelled >20 days prior to departure date
- 25% refund if cancelled >10 days prior to departure date
- 0% refund if cancelled <10 days prior to departure date
- No refund will be granted on cancellation done within one week of the date of journey.
- No refund will be granted for portion/portions of the journey not performed by the traveler.
- No refund will be granted in case of non-performance of journey due to external and natural events.
- The refund process will take atleast 10 to 15 days working days.
- In the event of any dispute, the matter shall be resolved under the jurisdiction of the District Court, Kargil.

Terms specific to scheduled trips:

- If the remainder 90% is not received 15 days prior to the date of departure, the booking will be considered as cancelled and will be made open for other interested participants. The 10% advance will be retained as cancellation fee
- Full refund will be made for trips cancelled by us due to inadequate enrollment

Services included in the cost is subject to the individual trip. You can refer to the trip itinerary details to see what services are included in the cost. Following are the services that are usually excluded from the cost, unless specified in the particular itinerary:

- International & Domestic flight fares
- Travel Insurance
- Accommodation in Srinagar/Leh
- Taxi from Leh/Srinagar to Kargil
- Monument/monastery and Museum visit fees.
- Any expenses of personal nature such as mineral water, laundry.
- Any kind of insurance, such as accident, theft, medical, evacuation etc.
- Tips to porters, camping team, driver, guide, etc.
- Cost incurred due to change / extension in the itinerary due to roadblocks, bad weather condition, flight delays, vehicle breakdowns, etc.
